The University Academic Staff Union extended the ongoing strike by eight weeks as the Federal Government has failed to satisfactorily address all the issues raised in the FGN 2020/ASUU Action Memorandum in the four-week anniversary strike.
Osodeke noted that the National Executive Board concluded during their meeting on Sunday that they would give the FG eight weeks to address all issues “concretely” so that students would move on.
The statement reads in part, “NEC recognizes intervention efforts, in various ways, by patriots and friends of genuine national development (students, parents, journalists, trade union leaders, civil society activists, etc.) government has allowed it to develop.
However, ASUU, as an intellectual union, has a historical obligation to make the government honor the treaty. “NEC, after taking reports on the involvement of the Trustees and Key Officials with the Government, concluded that the Government had failed to satisfactorily address all the issues raised in the FGN 2020/ASUU Action Memorandum within the four week strike period and decided that the strike would be extended for another eight weeks. to give the Government more time to address all the problems in Indonesia in concrete terms so that our students will move on as soon as possible.
