Ukraine has vowed not to give in to what it describes as “unacceptable” conditions put forward by Russia as the only way to end hostilities in the country.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, said his country held out little hope for a negotiated settlement. “There is little room for diplomacy in Putin’s mind,” he told a US policy forum. “We must keep the channels of diplomacy open,” while recognizing “Russia’s attempts to manipulate these channels openly.” “We are talking, but Russia is still making demands that are unacceptable to us. We will not make any compromises on existential issues for Ukraine,” he said. A French official previously told CNN that Putin appeared still “determined to achieve his goals in Ukraine”. This is after French President Emmanuel Macron had a telephone conversation with the Russian leader.

However, the minister emphasized that the removal of President Vladimir Putin as president of Russia would be enough to stop the conflict. He was somber about the consequences of war, saying it would make Ukraine hate Russia. “We will not forgive them for generations,” he said.
