In a country marked by its diversity and rich cultural tapestry, the South East region of Nigeria has long been a bastion of vibrant traditions and aspirations. However, recent developments have cast a shadow over the hopes of the Igbo people, highlighting their marginalized status in the nation’s political landscape. The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, led by the steadfast Chief Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, MFR, OFR, CFR, has raised its voice in a compelling call for justice, equity, and fairness, echoing the sentiments of many who share their concerns.

At the heart of the matter lies a deeply troubling observation: the disproportionately low representation of the South East region in the recent ministerial appointments made by His Excellency Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. While some zones enjoy a more robust ministerial presence with nine (9) or even ten (10) ministers, the South East is left grappling with a mere five (5) ministerial slots. This glaring inequality has sparked a fervent debate on the principles of justice and fairness that should underscore the foundation of a united Nigeria.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s stance is unequivocal: unity can only be achieved on the bedrock of fairness, justice, and equity. Their demand for an equal distribution of opportunities resonates deeply with the desire for a harmonious nation that celebrates its diversity while working towards a shared future. Chief Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu and his dedicated team believe that this is not just a plea for the Igbo people but a resounding call for a new era in Nigerian politics—one that prizes inclusivity and recognizes the strength that comes from embracing all ethnic groups.

A historical perspective sheds light on the roots of this issue. The creation of states and geopolitical zones, a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s history, was shaped by military administrations. However, this process sidelined the Igbo community, resulting in a disproportionate allocation of resources and representation. With only five (5) states compared to the minimum of six (6) states allocated to other zones, the South East found itself at a disadvantage, politically, economically, and socially. This ripple effect extended to political offices, federal revenue allocation, and board appointments, perpetuating a cycle of inequity.

It is crucial to emphasize that this predicament did not emerge overnight or during the current administration alone. Rather, it is a systemic issue that requires a collective effort to address. Chief Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, MFR, OFR, CFR, and the Ohanaeze Ndigbo are steadfast in their appeal to His Excellency, Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to take a step towards rectifying this historical injustice. By rectifying the course and championing a more balanced political landscape, the South East region could regain its rightful place in Nigerian society.

As Nigeria’s journey towards a brighter future continues, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Chief Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu remain a beacon of hope, reminding the nation’s leaders of their responsibility to guide the ship of the Nigerian nation with wisdom and knowledge. Their aspiration transcends ethnicity, creed, and political persuasion, encompassing a vision of a united Nigeria where every citizen is empowered to thrive, regardless of their background.

The call for justice is a call for the very essence of Nigeria’s promise to its people. It is a plea for a nation that stands as a testament to its rich diversity—a nation that can only truly flourish when every voice is heard, every community is uplifted, and every individual is granted the opportunities they deserve. The journey towards this Nigeria, where unity flourishes in an atmosphere of fairness, justice, and equity, continues, guided by the impassioned efforts of Chief Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu and the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.
