On Monday, United States President Donald Trump announced during his inauguration speech that his administration would officially recognize only two genders—male and female.
Speaking as he began his tenure as the 47th president of the United States, Trump stated, “I will also end the government policy of trying to socially engineer race and gender into every aspect of public and private life… Starting today, the official policy of the United States government will be that there are only two genders, male and female.”
In the same address, Trump outlined plans for major changes to U.S. trade policies, promising to introduce tariffs and taxes on foreign nations to prioritize American workers. “I will immediately begin the overhaul of our trade system to protect American workers and families,” he said. “Instead of taxing our citizens to benefit other countries, we will impose tariffs and taxes on foreign nations to benefit our own citizens.”
Trump’s remarks on gender followed his earlier promise to end what he referred to as “transgender lunacy.” He stated, “I will sign executive orders to end child sexual mutilation, remove transgender individuals from the military, and eliminate transgender ideology from elementary, middle, and high schools.”
He also pledged to “keep men out of women’s sports,” emphasizing that the recognition of only two genders would be the “official policy of the United States government.”
