The Federal Executive Council has approved the construction of 40 housing units for judges and Justices in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This was disclosed by FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, following the 18th Council meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
Wike stated that the project is part of the government’s Renewed Hope Housing initiative, aimed at providing secure and comfortable housing for judicial officers. Out of the 40 units to be built in the Katampe District, 20 will be designated for the FCT High Court, 10 for the Federal High Court, and 10 for the Court of Appeal. The construction is expected to be completed within 15 months.
The President emphasized the importance of judicial welfare, noting that it is unsafe and inconvenient for judges to live in rented houses or hotels. Therefore, the President directed the immediate construction of the residences through the FCT Development Authority.
In addition to housing, the Council approved several infrastructure projects to improve access to the judicial quarters. These include roads from Mabushi to the quarters, internal roads within the housing area, and roads connecting the Court of Appeal’s Abuja division. Wike also mentioned the government’s broader infrastructure development, which involves over 75 kilometers of roads in satellite towns such as Kwali, Gwagwalada, and Bwari.
