The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine could further extend the dearth of more than three weeks of gasoline in Nigeria, as most processed products coming into the country from the warring regions and surrounding areas are likely to face some delays.
Newsglobal also gathered on Sunday that traders supplying Nigeria with refined oil products may have stopped briefly due to a deficit in the supply of miny cargoes.
Under the scheme, the oil company provides crude oil to its trading partners, which in turn supply NNPC with refined products worth the volume of crude received from national oil companies. But perfect sources both at oil companies and among traders stated on Sunday that Nigeria through the NNPC had a deficit of about 17 cargoes in DSDP liabilities due to low oil production.
This, they say, could further prolong the situation of fuel scarcity faced nationally, unless something as drastic as the total deregulation of the downstream oil sector is implemented. They also noted that the Russian-Ukrainian war may worsen the gasoline supply situation in Nigeria as products could be deterred from leaving refineries in the region as scheduled. Nigeria imports its refined oil products, as its refineries are currently inactive.
