At least 11 Russian soldiers were killed at the military base in the southwestern Belgorod region that borders Ukraine.
Armed men opened fire at a Russian military training camp near Ukraine, killing at least 11 people and injuring 15 others, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
The ministry said the two attackers, citizens of an unspecified former Soviet republic, shot at volunteer soldiers during the shooting practice and were killed by the response fire.
The shooting comes amid a hasty mobilization ordered by President Vladimir Putin to reinforce Russian forces in Ukraine, a measure that sparked protests and caused hundreds of thousands to flee Russia.
This is happening week after an explosion damaged a bridge in Crimea, the Russian-annexed peninsula to Ukraine in 2014.
“ During a firearms training session with people who voluntarily expressed their desire to participate in the special military operation ( against Ukraine ), the terrorists opened small arms fire on unit personnel ”, the Defense Ministry statement read.
