The Zuba High Court which sits in the Division of High Courts of Gwagwalada, Abuja, has sentenced four people to death by hanging for armed robbery.
The convicts—Tochukwu Uwalaka, Gideon Igbabo, Miracle Amaechi, and Jamil Abdulsalam, had lured the 10-year-old daughter of their victim at gunpoint to gain access to her home in Kuje District in Abuja, on August 23, 2016.
The suspects, afterward, attacked the victim and her family with dangerous weapons, and transported valuables that included a 2006 Xterra Jeep, a 2008 Toyota Camry, two HP laptops, a telephone, a digital camera, an amount of N200,000 in cash, jewelery and valuables other.
The matter was transferred to the Intelligence Response Team of the Bureau of Force Intelligence where operators quickly arrested one of the suspects leading them to three of his accomplices. Newsglobal gathered that the CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said, “Dear Judge Ebong, after hearing the evidence from the prosecution, the defendants and their respective witnesses, confirmed the guilt of the defendants and sentenced the four suspects to death by hanging for criminal conspiracy violations, armed robbery, house trespass, and assault contrary to the provisions of the Robbery and Firearms Act (Special Provisions), 2004, and the Criminal Code Law
It said Inspector General Usman Baba commended the achievements of the investigative unit and tactical forces of the Nigerian Police for the various sentences that have been recorded in the cases investigated and brought to court.
IG commends the judiciary and IRT under the leadership of DCP Olatunji Disu, and the doggedness of the operators in ensuring justice in this matter and for following up on the operational success with prosecution prowess that has led to the conviction of these suspects.
“He equally reaffirmed the commitment of the force leadership to ensure that all matters reported to the police are properly followed up until sentencing is secured in a court of competent jurisdiction,” the statement read.
