On Saturday, September 3, 2022, Nollywood actress, Helen Duru, accused men of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of attacking her at her residence in Enugu state.

The thespian, who shared a video of himself covered in blood with a fractured skull, claimed that security operatives raided his house at 02:53 am on Saturday and broke the door and entered his house.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC has however denied the claims made by the actress.

In a statement issued, the EFCC described Helen’s allegations as “mere publicity seeking, and unsubstantiated allegations that fall below the surface of the indisputable facts available to the Commission.”

“False and Misleading Video in Circulation on EFCC Operations

The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been drawn to an online video trending on Instagram, from the handle of a certain “@Iamhelenaduru”, a self-made actor, claiming, quite falsely, to have been assaulted by operatives of the Commission.

The Commission’s checks, however, labeled Helen Aduru, an upcoming actress, as a publicity-seeking player, with poorly written allegations that have fallen flat in the face of indisputable facts available to the Commission.

In his note, he was quick to include five names of officers he claimed were from the Cyber Crime Section of the Commission’s Enugu Command. Basically, EFCC officers do not wear name tags or carry around bulldozer-shaped devices to break down security gates.

Aduru claimed that, strangely, he was helped by a small child to reach the Police Station at 3:44 in the morning but found the station closed. It is important to note that Police Stations are not public service ministries that “close” in the evening. The most surprising thing is the fact that he did not return, at dawn, to file a complaint. The saddest part is the fact that his alleged attack on July 21, 2022, which was not recorded almost two months later at the Police Station is only being made public on September 2, 2022!! Such a scene could only stand on a regular Nollywood fiction series.

Such claims by Aduru, like other incoherent, click-byte, sympathy-seeking stories, do not merit a response but rather to the need to avoid the “silence is acquiescence” attitudes of evildoers. A thorough investigation into the matter only showed that, some innocent people may include some known names in the Enugu Zonal Command to settle some scores.

The Commission, fully guided by its Standard Operating Procedures, will not accept deception or manipulation by any party. The poorly written video would be further analyzed for further investigative details and possible legal action to stop those who appear to be making a business of defaming and defaming the Commission. Citizens have been ordered to ignore Aduru’s claims. EFCC officers are not raiders or terrorists.
