Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has dismissed insinuations in some circles that talks resulted in a consensus presidential candidate for the Democratic People’s Party, PDP, targeted at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Saraki recently met with Bala Governor Muhammad and Aminu Tambuwal, who, like the former President of the Senate, competed for the only PDP presidential ticket, with a view to agreeing to produce consensus candidates.
Asked if the meeting was aimed at fighting Atiku, Saraki said: “Those who make such innuendos are delinquents who never see the point in anything. We don’t shut anyone down. As we said, we will meet him (Atiku).
“We will look at other candidates. There were other aspirants at the party. It’s not about kicking anyone out. It’s about uniting everyone with the interests of this country. And you’ll see when we start moving, but we’re not limited to anyone.
‘ Saraki noted that talks about the possibility of producing a consensus presidential candidate would continue, saying: “The next meeting we will have again will be in Sokoto, which will host the governor of Sokoto. We would like to inform you that we had a good discussion.
“The more we meet, the more we continue to share our views on the importance of our party’s unity, because we believe only the PDP has a solution to help us out of the problems we are facing today. ”
