Enugu State Police Commissioner Abubakar Lawal handed out checks totaling N11.3 million to the families of police officers killed in the state.
Command Public Relations Officer DSP Daniel Ndukwe, in a statement in Enugu on Tuesday, said the presentation was made on July 26.
According to Ndukwe, the development is to further the commitment of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Alkali Usman, to improve the well-being of police personnel.
He said, “The commissioner handed out checks worth N11,322,960 to the first group of beneficiaries who have so far come forward to receive the checks.
“They are part of a total number of 44 beneficiaries of the command, who are destined to receive checks with a cumulative sum of N29,079,137.”
The police spokesman said the commissioner praised the IGP for its high sense of humanitarianism towards Nigeria Police personnel, especially the relatives of deceased personnel.
Ndukwe said the commissioner also took pity on the beneficiaries and asked them to make judicious use of the funds for their own betterment and that of the deceased staff left behind.
“The beneficiaries thanked the IGP for its immense humanitarian gestures towards them, while promising to make judicious use of the funds for the betterment of their respective families,” he added.
