The Osun State government has announced the acquisition of 72 new tractors to enhance food security efforts. According to Olawale Rasheed, spokesperson for Governor Ademola Adeleke, the government has paid for 114 tractors, with 72 arriving on Wednesday. In June, Governor Adeleke revealed his administration’s plans for the agricultural sector, emphasizing support for farm inputs, tractorization, and food security. After meeting with a Nordic firm interested in establishing a tractor assembly plant in Osun, Governor Adeleke highlighted his comprehensive agricultural strategy, stating that the state is ready to implement various programs in the sector.
He mentioned that, in addition to acquiring new tractors, the government will explore leasing deals with tractor hiring associations to support farmers and combat rising inflation. The Governor also noted that functional but unused tractors will be repaired. The first batch of 24 trucks, each carrying three tractors, has arrived, with more expected. The new tractors are equipped with three diffraction ploughs and can be attached to carriers. Governor Adeleke assured residents that he will continue to fulfill his promises despite the country’s challenging economic conditions.
