Azumini, Ukwa East LGA, Abia State – In a scathing denouncement, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has expressed deep concern over the activities of Simon Ekpa, a Finland-based Biafra renegade, and ex-Niger Delta militant, Asari Dokubo, accusing them of exacerbating insecurity in the Southeast zone.

Addressing journalists at Azumini, Ambassador Okey Emuchay, Secretary General of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, condemned the duo for what he termed “waging war against the Igbo nation.” Emuchay particularly pointed out Ekpa’s perpetuation of the contentious Monday sit-at-home order, which has inflicted severe economic disruptions across the five states of the Southeast.
“The pervasive sit-at-home has plunged the Igbo nation into a very sad situation, which is unnecessary for a people that had passed through a harrowing experience of war,” lamented Emuchay, emphasizing the detrimental effects of such actions on the region’s already fragile economic landscape.
Emuchay further stated that Ekpa’s actions were not in the interest of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and had no connection to the ongoing efforts for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. He accused Ekpa and his cohorts of exploiting the Biafra agitation for personal gain, describing them as “people with no integrity” using the cause as a “money-making venture.”

Regarding Asari Dokubo, the Ohanaeze expressed alarm over a circulating video showing him training an armed gang, the purpose of which remains unknown. Given the group’s proximity to the Igbo land, which is already grappling with insecurity, Emuchay stressed the need for concern and urged the federal government to investigate Dokubo’s activities and the intention behind training an armed group.

In light of these developments, Ohanaeze called on the federal government to engage with Finland diplomatically and checkmate Simon Ekpa’s activities, as he continues to wage war against his own people from abroad. Emuchay emphasized that Ekpa had no legitimate mandate concerning Biafra and urged him, along with “other criminals,” to cease using IPOB’s name to cause havoc in the Southeast zone.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide’s denunciation comes as a plea for peace and stability in the region, urging all concerned parties to prioritize the collective well-being of the Igbo nation over personal interests and ambitions.
