Former Commissioner for Land and Urban Development in Enugu State, who left the Government a few weeks ago, Surveyor Victor Nnam was last Friday detained at Enugu Correctional Center on suspicion of theft and acquiring land under false pretenses
Nnam was detained by order of the Federal High Court sitting in Enugu, presided over by Justice I.N Buba, where he was indicted on a 10-count charges of altering himself Aruga Layout, Obinagu Obeagu Community, Enugu, an offense contrary to section 15(1) (a) of Money Laundering (Prohibition) (Act), 2011.
In the indictment, FHC/EN/CR/189/2021, Federal Republic of Nigeria (Complainant) versus Dr. Surv. Victor Chukwuemeka Nnam (Defendant), the former commissioner is alleged to have “on or about the 27th day of October 2017 in Enugu State under the jurisdiction of this honorable court of offense against intelligence: “You changed the Layout of Aruga, Obinagu Obeagu Community, Enugu, Enugu state that says the property you obtained directly from theft and or forgery and thus you commit an offense contrary to Section 15(1) (a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) (Act), 2011 and punishable under the same section of the Act.
Nnam was alleged to have committed the said offences while he was a staff of Private Estates International West African, developers of Enugu Lifestyle and Golf City (Enugu Centenary City).
Judge I. N. Buba gave him bail in the amount of N200 million and two reliable sureties in the same amount. Of that certainty, the judge said “must reside in the state of Enugu and must meet this court with their Bank Verification Number, BVN, National Identification Number, NIN, and telephone number”, adding that “certification must produce proof of ownership of the landed property where as the original title document is kept in this court, the defendant and the sortie must deposit two of their recent sized passport photographs with the registry of the court”.
