Determined to put an end to the circulation
of contaminated substandard pediatric cough syrups
from Gambia to Nigeria, the National Agency For Drug
Administration and Control has raised an alarm with the media.
Speaking to newsmen in Abuja, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, Director-General of NAFDAC disclosed that her agency has resolved to ensure that the circulation of the contaminated syrups do not happen in Nigeria.
She stressed that NAFDAC has put in place measures to prevent entry of the spurious products in Nigeria.

The suspected medical products are Promethazine Oral Solution, Kofexmalin Baby Cough Syrup, Makoff Baby Syrup and Magrip N Cold Syrup manufactured by an Indian company, Maiden Pharmaceuticals which had failed to provide guarantees about their safety.
Health care providers and the public should not patronize but seek immediate medical advice from a qualified health care professional and discontinue the use of these syrups which have been linked with acute kidney injuries and 66 deaths among children in Gambia.
