Massive Fire Engulfs Christ Embassy Headquarters in Lagos

A devastating fire broke out early Sunday at the Christ Embassy Church headquarters located on Billings Way in the Oregun area of Ikeja, Lagos State.

The inferno, which started in the early hours, caused extensive damage to the church property and sent shockwaves through the community.

Eyewitnesses confirmed to Channels Television that the fire, visible from afar, consumed a significant portion of the church’s facilities. Videos circulating on social media platform X showed the building engulfed in flames, with thick black smoke billowing into the sky.

Firefighters from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service responded promptly to the scene, deploying multiple fire trucks in an effort to control the blaze. Despite their quick response, the fire caused considerable destruction before it was finally brought under control. The cause of the fire is believed to be an electrical spark originating from the power generator house, which led to a surge affecting several generators and electrical equipment​.

No casualties were reported, but the fire damaged property worth millions of naira. Officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Lagos State Fire Service worked together to prevent the fire from spreading further, although they faced some challenges due to the initial interference by church members attempting to manage the situation themselves​.

The church, led by influential pastor Chris Oyakhilome, is a well-known institution in Lagos and the damage has deeply impacted its congregation and operations. The police have cordoned off the area to maintain order and facilitate a thorough investigation into the incident​​.
