Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has stated that his administration’s payment of students’ WAEC fees is not a favor but a fulfillment of its duty. During an unscheduled visit to GYB Model Science, Adankolo, in Lokoja on Tuesday, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to prioritizing quality education in the state.
Addressing the students, Ododo emphasized that his administration would continue to support them through bursaries and scholarships, ensuring no one is disadvantaged due to their social status. Recalling his personal struggles to access education, he assured the students of his dedication to their future, saying, “Our state depends on how we invest in your education, and I will not fail you.”
During the visit, Ododo engaged with the students by shaking hands with each of them, sharing his own experience of missing such an opportunity with a former governor. The gesture was met with excitement among the students.
The school principal, Ajofe Godwins, expressed gratitude to the governor for his dedication to education, highlighting the state’s funding of three universities and other institutions. He also acknowledged the contributions of former Governor Yahaya Bello, who rebuilt the school and had it commissioned by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2022.
