Jamaica revealed plans to acquire  vehicles from Innoson Vehicles Manufacturing in Nigeria.

That plan was unveiled on Saturday by Esmond Reid who is the Jamaican High Commissioner to Nigeria during a plant tour of the IVM plant in Nnewi, Anambra state.

He said: “It is a tremendous opportunity for us to experience vehicle manufacturing here in Nigeria, one of our brothers in the South.

“It is also a chance to be able to discuss commercial opportunities for sourcing vehicles from Nigeria.

“This is my first visit. I will go and consult with my stakeholders back home to look at the timeline and determine the negotiations and engagements and when we will start the business of sourcing the vehicles.”

Referring to IVM Factory, Reid said it was “top class”,  and He couldn’t wait to go back to convince Jamaicans to come see for themselves too.

After which he congratulated the management that handled his visit and he spoke claiming that it could be the start of something big for both countries.

As they concluded , Geoffrey Onyeama , minister of Foreign Affairs, called for strict enforcement from the Presidential Executive Order  to mandate government officials to buy and use Nigeria.

He said “I’m very proud,  These facilities  are  world class compared to some of the vehicle manufacturers I have seen in some other countries. Indeed Innoson is fine.

“On the other hand, every government official should be required to buy and use a Nigerian-made car just as it is done in France.

“it is impossible to see a French government official driving a non-French car, the same in Japan, Korea, the UK and the US.

“Here we need to do the same. This will encourage and support our citizens and demystify the technology,” he said.”
