The Gaza Health Ministry, operating under the Hamas-led government, reports that over 11,070 Palestinians have lost their lives since the onset of the war. Shockingly, two-thirds of the casualties are women and minors, and the ministry does not distinguish between civilian and militant fatalities.
Amidst the devastation, at least 1,200 people have been killed in Israel, primarily in the initial Hamas assault, with an additional 41 Israeli soldiers losing their lives in Gaza since the commencement of the ground offensive, according to Israeli officials.
On the ground, conflicting narratives emerge as health officials and those confined within Gaza’s largest hospital challenge Israel’s assertions of facilitating evacuations. They refute claims that the Israeli forces are aiding infants and others to leave the premises, contending that the fighting persists just outside the hospital. Within this dire situation, incubators remain unused due to a lack of electricity, and crucial supplies are dwindling.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, unmoved by urgent calls for a cease-fire, stands firm on his position unless it includes the release of nearly 240 hostages taken by Hamas during the October 7 rampage that ignited the conflict. Following Netanyahu’s declaration that Israel is deploying its “full force” to bring an end to Hamas’ 16-year rule in Gaza, residents report sustained heavy airstrikes and shelling, including in the vicinity of Shifa Hospital.
