At least 75 secondary schools in Zamfara are still closed due to security concerns. The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Alhaji Kabiru Attahiru, said that in Gusau on Saturday.
He was reading goodwill message for a two-day meeting to tame the National Gender Policy in Education ( NPGE) organized by the state Universal Basic Education Council in partnership with UNICEF.
Attahiru noted that most schools were female secondary schools that were closed since September 2021 following attacks on two girl’s schools in the state.
He said the state government worked all the time to reopen schools that had been closed since September 2021 following the threat of bandits. He explained that the government directed the closure of schools after the abduction of 75 students from the Government High School, Kaya, in the Maradun Region of the state.
Attahiru stressed the need to involve field officers in the formulation of national education policies on gender education to achieve the desired results.
In his remarks, the state UNICEF consultant, Dr. Ahmed Hashim, highlighted the committee’s objectives including reviewing input from previous meetings on NPGE.
