The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has given an update on the ongoing collation of results in the Edo State governorship election. In a statement signed by National Commissioner Mohammed Haruna on Sunday, INEC confirmed that voting concluded on Saturday, and the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal has been activated for uploading results from the Polling Units.

According to the statement, results from all 192 Wards have been collected, and collation in most Local Government Areas has also finished. Designated officials are either at the collation center in Benin City or on their way, with the State-level collation set to begin soon.

However, INEC reported a concerning incident in Okpoba Okha Local Government Area, where a threat to their office led to a stampede, injuring one official. The Commission also expressed concern about political demonstrations at the State Head Office before the final collation, deeming such actions unnecessary.

INEC stressed that the collation process will continue as per the Electoral Act 2022 and that there are procedures for addressing grievances, including reviewing results declared under duress. The Commission urged security agencies to maintain vigilance as the election process is concluded.
