Anayo Onwuegbu: The Story of a Visionary Engineer and Dedicated Philanthropist

Sir Engr. Anayo Befford Onwuegbu was born into the Onwuegbu family of Umudim, Akpugoeze, in Oji-River Local Government Area of Enugu State. He completed his primary education in Akpugoeze and attended Aguata High School in Aguata for his secondary education. His academic excellence earned him admission to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.

Following his National Youth Service, Sir Anayo founded Anbeez Services Limited, a civil engineering firm specializing in erosion control, dam construction, and irrigation systems. Under his leadership, Anbeez Services Ltd has become one of Nigeria’s most advanced and successful indigenous civil engineering companies.

A fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Onwuegbu has also made his mark in politics, aspiring to be the governor of Enugu State on three occasions. His political endeavors have made him a prominent figure in the state, earning him various honors and titles from traditional and religious institutions. Notably, he was awarded the title of Ebube Enugu State by HRH Igwe Kingsley Chime on behalf of the Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers.

Additionally, he is a member of the Knighthood of Saint Paul in the Anglican Diocese of Aguata and the founder of the B.A. Onwuegbu Education Trust Fund, which has provided over 100 university scholarships and 250 secondary school scholarships across Nigeria.

His philanthropic efforts and commitment to community service attracted the attention of the Federal Government, leading to his appointment as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo in Ebonyi State.

Sir Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu is happily married to Barr. Mrs. Stella Obiageli Onwuegbu, and they are blessed with five children: three sons, Nkennia, Chidera, and Okezie, and two daughters, Chisom and Amarachi.
