On Saturday night, a brutal attack struck the Umucheke Okwe community in Imo State’s Onuimo Local Government Area, resulting in the tragic loss of seven lives.
The victims included the community’s President General and six prominent village leaders.
Eyewitnesses reported that gunmen opened fire on the leaders during a weekly meeting at the President General’s shop in the community market. The assailants then set the building ablaze, claiming the lives of all the community chiefs present.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, leaving the community in a state of shock and fear.
A community member expressed the widespread confusion, saying, “The reason for the attack is unknown, and the purpose of the meeting is also unclear.”
The community has been abandoned, with villagers fleeing their homes in fear. The state police command has yet to release a statement regarding the incident.
