The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) is deeply saddened by the recent flood in Mokwa, Niger State. At least 21 people have died, and many homes and businesses have been damaged.
In a statement on Friday, NGF chairman AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq said the governors were shocked by how severe the Mokwa flood was. He offered heartfelt sympathy to the families who lost loved ones and to everyone whose lives were disrupted by the rising waters.

AbdulRazaq praised Governor Usman Bago and the state government for acting quickly. He noted their strong work with emergency teams to help those affected. He also warned that events like this flood show how climate change can harm our lives.
The governors pledged to keep working with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). They want to improve disaster planning and make relief efforts faster and stronger.
Heavy rains caused rivers to overflow and flood several communities in Mokwa. Early estimates put property damage in the millions of naira. The NGF asked all citizens to follow instructions from relief agencies and support government steps to reduce future flood risks.
Finally, the Forum prayed for comfort for those who have lost family members and homes. They urged everyone to help each other and back government plans to fight climate change and protect communities from disasters
