TEL AVIV, Israel In a powerful display of support, President Emmanuel Macron of France embarked on a wartime visit to Israel, where he declared “full solidarity” with the nation and prioritized the safe return of hostages held by Hamas.

Macron, accompanied by Israeli President Isaac Herzog, met with the grief-stricken families of French nationals who were abducted by the Hamas terrorist organization. The French leader left no room for doubt about his mission, stating, “Our number one goal is the release of hostages.”

He went on to condemn the heinous Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7, characterizing it as a “shock to humanity.” Macron minced no words, asserting that “Hamas carried out one of the worst horrors in history” and issued a stern warning regarding Hezbollah and Iran, cautioning that they are “playing with fire.”

During his visit, President Macron engaged in crucial discussions with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior Israeli officials. Subsequently, he is set to journey to Ramallah to meet with Palestinian leaders in pursuit of a multifaceted approach.

The devastating attack on October 7 claimed the lives of at least 30 French nationals, while seven remain unaccounted for. Among them is a confirmed hostage, and several others are suspected to be held captive by Hamas in Gaza.

Emmanuel Macron had previously indicated the significance of his visit to the region, citing three key objectives: to demonstrate unwavering solidarity with Israel, to make resolute commitments against terrorist groups, and to pave the way for a renewed political perspective.
