Enugu — Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady, has empowered 400 farmers in Enugu State through the Renewed Hope Initiative Agricultural Support Program, aimed at enhancing food production and promoting sustainable livelihoods in rural communities.
The program, which is part of a nationwide initiative targeting 18,500 farmers across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, focuses on providing practical training, start-up inputs, and agricultural tools to selected beneficiaries.
In Enugu, the farmers received various empowerment items including grinding machines, wheelbarrows, spraying equipment, farm inputs, piglets, poultry birds, feed, seeds, and other essential tools. They also underwent training in piggery, poultry farming, drip irrigation, vegetable production, feed processing, and general farm management practices.
Speaking at the event organized for the beneficiaries, representatives of the Renewed Hope Initiative emphasized the importance of agriculture in rebuilding Nigeria’s economy and tackling food insecurity. They urged the farmers to make the most of the opportunity and apply the skills learned to improve productivity and income generation.
The initiative, driven by Senator Tinubu’s office, is being implemented in partnership with state governments and local agricultural agencies to ensure grassroots participation and accountability.
In her remarks, the wife of the Enugu State Governor, who represented the state government, expressed appreciation to the First Lady for the gesture and assured that the state would continue to support agricultural empowerment programs.
The Renewed Hope Initiative Agricultural Support Program is part of a broader effort by the Tinubu administration to revive the agricultural sector and promote economic self-reliance through skill development and capacity building in rural areas.
The program is expected to continue across other states in the coming months.
