FCT Minister Wike Promises More Road Infrastructure in Area Councils

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has pledged to build additional road infrastructure across the area councils in the territory.

Wike made this commitment while launching the five-kilometer Naharati – River Ukya – Uguwan Hausawa access road in Abaji, Abaji Area Council, on Monday. He explained that this initiative is part of President Bola Tinubu’s vision for balanced development of both Abuja city and its satellite towns.

“I’ve told everyone who’s willing to listen that as we develop the city, we are also developing the satellite towns,” Wike said. “This week, we are dedicating ourselves to inaugurating projects across all six area councils.”

He assured the people of Abaji that additional road projects are planned, with funds allocated in the 2025 FCT Administration budget. Wike also highlighted that the construction of the Naharati – River Ukya – Uguwan Hausawa road fulfilled a promise made to Abaji residents in late 2023.

Furthermore, Wike noted that the establishment of two additional Police Divisions in Abaji to enhance security would be completed and inaugurated in a few months. He also mentioned ongoing construction at the FCT University of Science and Technology, as promised to the local community.

Wike expressed gratitude to the Abaji Traditional Council for conferring on him the traditional title of “Hasken Abaji” (The Light of Abaji), dedicating it to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he described as the “light of Nigeria” for his impactful and people-centered projects.

Wike assured that more projects would be inaugurated in May to mark the second anniversary of Tinubu’s presidency.

Earlier, Mr. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, emphasized that the project aligns with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He stated that the project aimed to improve the standard of living in satellite towns and area councils, create job opportunities, facilitate transportation, boost the movement of farm produce, and reduce travel time.

Mr. Abubakar Abdullahi, Chairman of the Abaji Area Council, thanked the Minister for his dedication to developing all FCT area councils. He noted that the road had connected Naharati residents to Abaji town for the first time. Following Wike’s example, the council has also completed an 80-bed hospital in Abaji and is constructing a 750-capacity ultra-modern information and communication technology center, contributing to long-term human capital development.
