In what can only be described as a major political realignment in Enugu State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) recorded a massive boost on Saturday, June 7, 2025, as top Labour Party leaders, including Rt. Hon. Cyriacus Sunday Umeha, Member representing Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency, and Hon. Dennis Amadi Oguweriwa, former Labour Party Enugu West Senatorial Candidate, officially joined the APC alongside all 40 ward structures of the Labour Party in Udi and Ezeagu LGAs.
The epoch-making event, which took place at Akama Oghe in Ezeagu Local Government Area, drew a mammoth crowd and key party stalwarts from across Enugu State and beyond, underscoring the APC’s growing momentum and broad-based appeal ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The decampees were warmly received by the indefatigable Chairman of the APC in Enugu State, Hon. Barr. Ugochukwu H. Agballah, who was accompanied by an array of distinguished leaders of the party. Among the heavyweights present were Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology and the leader of the APC in Enugu State; Lord Mayor Emma Eneukwu, APC Deputy National Chairman (South); Prof. Martins Nnanyelugo Ikemounso, Director-General of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council; Prof. Nick C. Ezeh, National Deputy Coordinator (South) of Nationwide Tinubu Connect Associates and 2023 APC Senatorial Candidate for Enugu West; Dr. Tony Nebo, Pro-Chancellor of FUNAI; Hon. Obumneme Obodougo, Federal Commissioner, RMFAC; and Engr. Dr. Lois Nwobodo, Managing Director of SEDI.
Other notable stakeholders at the gathering included Barr. George, the immediate past APC Deputy Governorship Candidate; Barr. Peter Okonkwo, Prince Ezenwa Onyirimba, Chief Harrison Okeke, Princess Ekene Ozobu, Chief Cypon Nnaji, Barr. Emeka Abah, Chief Basil Ani (Ojinaka na Ukana), Ozor Bana, Chief Ogbonna Fada Fada, and an extensive array of grassroots mobilizers and State Executive Committee members.
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Hon. Agballah declared the occasion not merely a reception but “a resounding declaration that Enugu is ready for transformation under the progressive vision of the APC.” He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to providing credible and people-oriented governance, assuring that the APC is well positioned to offer Enugu State a better alternative in 2027.
Party leaders hailed the defection as a defining moment that reflects a growing trust in the APC’s leadership and vision. “This is a turning point for the APC in Enugu State,” one leader noted. “Ndi Enugu are yearning for a leadership that listens, serves and transforms lives—and the APC is prepared to deliver.”
Highlights of the ceremony included the symbolic presentation of the APC flags and broom to the new members by Chairman Agballah, signaling their formal induction into the party.
As the APC continues to attract credible and influential leaders into its fold, the vision of reclaiming Enugu State in 2027 is no longer a distant dream but a fast-approaching political reality. The tireless efforts of leaders like Chief Uche Nnaji, Barr. Ugochukwu Agballah, Prof. Nick C.
