The Federal Government, through the Nigerian Data Protection Bureau, is investigating data privacy violations of David Nwamina, a Nigerian youth at the center of allegations of organ harvesting against former Senate Vice President, Ike Ekweremadu.
The Password photos of Nwamina appeared online. David was said to have been trafficked to England for organ harvesting by Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice.
The couple were charged at the Uxbridge Magistrate Court in London on charges of conspiracy and organ harvesting last week.
The NDPB also said it was investigating data privacy violations of Sonia Ekweremadu, daughter of Ekweremadus.
The National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer, NDPB, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, ordered an investigation into the violation, according to a statement issued by the bureau on Monday.
The statement reads, in part “National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer, Nigeria Data Protection Bureau, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, has ordered an investigation into the use and circulation of public personal data that allegedly belonged to Nwamini David and Sonia Ekweremadu in the ongoing process. organ transplant cases await in British Courts. “The Bureau notes with concern that certain sensitive personal data that is said to belong to two Nigerian citizens ( reporters and patients ) in this case are being processed by data controllers – especially media organizations – without regard implications under the 2019 Nigeria Data Protection Regulations.
“The NDPR prohibits processing personal data without consent or other legal basis known to the law The Bureau further warns all data controllers and people to stop sharing such personal data, which can draw consequences from using anyone’s data that violates NDPR.
