A Federal High Court in Abuja has refused to grant bail to the suspended Deputy Commissioner of police , Abba Kyari.

The presiding judge Justice Emeka Nwite gave the instructions on Monday. Kyari and six others have been charged by theNational Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for alleged violations of drug trafficking.

Judge Nwite also rejected the request of the defendant’s colleague Kyari.

The NDLEA agrees that it is inappropriate for grant bail to the applicant because of the facts and circumstances of the case being called.

The anti-narcotics agency described Kyari as “a flight risk”,, arguing that if granted bail the suspended DCP might escape.

The agency, who said the applicant might interfere with the evidence if granted bail, urged the court to dismiss Kyari’s bail plea.
Arguing  that the medical challenges of the applicant was not beyond the capacity of the agency’s medical personnel.

The judge, in his decision, was in line with the NDLEA argument and refused a brief request.

He also ordered the transfer of Kyari and his fellow defendants to Kuje Prison in Abuja.
