I was on the phone with a prophetess. She used to be my ‘daughter’ in my Pentecostal ministry days. She was telling me how she Evolved from videoing herself praying on the mountain. This time, she set her ring light and camera then started blasting in tongues. She prayed passionately and wailed for one hour only to discover the camera was not recording the session.

She was disappointed that her hard work was a waste.

Before you judge her for feeling disappointed, pause, take a deep breath, if you set cameras to record your prayer moment and you discover at the end of your session that the camera malfunctioned, would you feel happy? Be honest.

But that was her moment of evolution….she heard a soft voice in her subconscious mind ask a deep question- “has your time of spiritual intimacy become a YouTube content production where your sacred moments of communion become dysfunctional just because the cameras malfunctioned? Would you import cameras into your matrimonial bedroom to record your intimacy with your husband?” That was her liberation hour. She was liberated from the prayer showbiz which has replaced private moments of meditation and communion.

Dear prayer seeking Africans, when you start mounting cameras in the secret place, know that you have lost the mystery of the secret place.

I speak with the authority of a retired general watching from the tower – if you want to know how some of us still maintain sharpened spirituality and compassionate humanity without aligning with any organised religion, it’s because we kept cameras away from our secret place.

Praying with cameras turned on is not revival. Revival is what happens when the cameras are turned off.
