Breaking: OPEC outing going Sec Gen is dead, NNPC GMD announces via Twitter

Nearly 24 hours after he was received by President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday in Abuja, Mohammed Barkindo, the 4th Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC Secretary General) is dead.

Managing Director of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mela Kyari, via his verified Twitter handle @MKkyari tweeted at 4:32 am: “We lost our esteemed Dr Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo. He died around 11pm yesterday 5th July 2022. Certainly a great loss to his immediate family, the NNPC, our country Nigeria, the OPEC and the global energy community. Burial arrangements will be announced shortly.”
Buhari, in the brief reception said: Barkindo’s six-year tenure was challenging due to the challenges crippling the oil market and the COVID-19 pandemic which sent crude oil prices down at an alarming rate.
He has described him as a worthy ambassador of the country.
The president also said that the children and grandchildren will remember him well because he made the nation and himself Certainly a great loss to his immediate family, the NNPC, our country Nigeria, the OPEC and the global energy community. Burial arrangements will be announced shortly.”
