The Oyo State House of Assembly eventually impeached the state’s deputy governor, Rauf Olaniyan, on allegations of gross misconduct and financial irregularities, while he was in office.
The Assembly, during its emergency session monday, recommended that, after considering the report of the seven-man panel constituted by the state’s chief judge to investigate allegations of serious misconduct against the lieutenant governor, it found him guilty of all the allegations.
The recommendations further read: “I hereby recommend for the approval of the House, pursuant to section 188(19) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) that the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency Eng. Rauf Olaniyan, removed from office as of today, Monday, July 18, 2022.”
Following this development, the governor, Mr. ‘Seyi Makinde, is expected to announce the name of the new deputy governor, who will be sworn in with immediate effect tomorrow, as the Assembly planned to reconvene its session in the coming days. hours.
