Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has announced that his team will honor newly crowned Premier League champions Liverpool with a guard of honour before their match at Anfield on Sunday.
Although Arsenal were Liverpool’s closest competitors this season, they will enter the game 15 points behind, with Liverpool clinching the title last month with four matches to spare. Arteta stated, “We will give Liverpool a guard of honour. They deserve it. They’ve been the best and most consistent team. In sports, when someone excels, you have to applaud and strive to match their level.”
This gesture follows Chelsea’s similar tribute to Liverpool last weekend at Stamford Bridge, where they beat the champions 3-1.
While acknowledging Liverpool’s dominance in the league, Arteta reiterated his belief that Arsenal were the best team in this season’s Champions League, despite their semi-final loss to Paris Saint-Germain. “One hundred percent,” he affirmed, noting that he had reviewed all the statistics.
