The Broadcasting Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) has banned the use of foreign singers and models from Saturday, October 1.
The director general of ARCON Olalekan Fadolapo in his statement said the ban is in line with the Federal Government’s policy to develop local talent and inclusive economic growth for the country’s sectors, including advertising.
“ARCON, being the apex agency for advertising, promotion and marketing communications of the Federal Government, has in accordance with its legal authority, duties and powers as presented by the Nigerian Broadcasting Regulatory Council Act No. 23 of 2022 prohibits the use of foreign models and voiceover artists in any advertisement intended to be aired on the Nigerian broadcast airspace from the Ist of October 2022,” Fadolapo said.
The CEO added that all advertisements and marketing communication materials are to use only Nigerian artists and models.
He explained that ongoing advertising and marketing campaigns are allowed to go beyond their time after which the ban will be implemented.
“However, subsequent requests for approval for continued disclosure of such material will not be granted by the Advertising Standards Panel (ASP),” Fadolapo said.
ARCON appealed to all broadcasters, broadcasting organizations, media, broadcasting associations and the general public to observe the ban.
