The Nigeria Police Force has appointed Adebola Ayinde Hamzat as the new Assistant Inspector General (AIG) for Zone 16 Command, headquartered in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
He was appointed immediately after the retirement of the previous AIG, Paul Alifa Omata, as announced by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
Hamzat, who hails from Ifelodun Local Government Area in Kwara State, joined the police force as a cadet Assistant Superintendent on May 18, 1992.
He is a graduate of Sociology from the University of Ilorin and holds advanced degrees in Conflict Management and Peace Studies from the University of Jos, as well as a PhD in Peace and Development Studies from Unilorin.
Before this recent appointment, Hamzat served as the AIG for the Counter-Terrorism Unit and held the roles of Commissioner of Police in Oyo State and with the Border Patrol Force.
The Zone 16 Command, covering Bayelsa and Rivers States, looks forward to Hamzat’s leadership, with a call for public support to help him implement effective policing strategies in alignment with Egbetokun’s vision for the force.
