Actor, Will Smith slapped the Oscar host, Chris Rock during the Hollywood Actor Oscar (Video) award
Will Smith has won an academy award for Best Actor shortly after the destruction on an amazing stage where he slapped presenter Chris Rock for making jokes about his wife’s haircut.
Just minutes after hitting Rock with his arms open on stage, Smith won his first Academy Award for his role as Richard Williams, a persistent father who raised tennis champions Venus and Serena Williams, in ‘King Richard.’ Receiving an award, Smith issued a tearful apology for his emotional outburst, saying: ‘I want to apologize to the Academy, I want to apologize to all my nominees.
This is a beautiful moment “Richard Williams is a formidable family defender,” said Smith who looked emotional. ‘Right now in my life, at this moment I am overwhelmed by what God calls me to do.
‘ The slap incident occurred after Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife’s haircut, Jada Pinkett Smith. The shocking scene, broadcast live throughout the world, surprised both the live audience at the Dolby Theater and TV viewers. After Smith stepped onto the stage and slapped Rock with his right hand open, Rock staggered and exclaimed ‘wow,Will Smith just smacked the s**t out of me.’ .’ Smith, looking emotional, walked back to his chair in the audience and shouted:‘Keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth.
The exchange was silenced on broadcasts that were delayed in most of the US, but aired in full to several international viewers. Smith, who was nominated in the best actor category, seemed offended by the joke Rock made about Pinkett Smith’s short haircut. Referring to Pinkett Smith’s haircut,
Rock said:Jada, can’t wait for GI Jane 2’, prompting the actress to roll her eyes. Pinkett Smith has been grappling with hair loss since revealing a diagnosis of alopecia in 2018. After being slapped, Rock looked shocked and confused as he tried to return to the best documentary film category. He commented: ‘It was the biggest night in television history.’
