On Saturday, veteran actors Nkem Owoh and Sani Ma’azu were celebrated with the prestigious Industry Merit Award at the 11th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), honoring their decades of exceptional contributions to Nigeria’s film industry.
Nkem Owoh, widely known as Osuofia, is a legendary figure in Nollywood, recognized for his talent in comedy, acting, music, and scriptwriting. At 70, his influence remains strong, with his comedic skills, impeccable timing, and captivating screen presence inspiring generations of filmmakers and viewers.
Sani Ma’azu is also a respected figure, especially in Hausa-language cinema, where he has been a champion of cultural storytelling, enriching the industry with his authentic perspectives.
This recognition at the AMVCA not only celebrates their lasting impact but also underscores the importance of talent, dedication, and cultural storytelling in African cinema.
The AMVCA, organized annually by Multichoice, honors excellence in television, film, entertainment, and digital media across Africa. The 2025 event was held in Lagos, Nigeria, and broadcast live on all Africa Magic platforms. Winners were determined through a combination of public voting and a jury panel’s decisions, covering works released between January 1 and December 31, 2024.
