Nigerian artist Speed Darlington is facing defamation charges filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
According to GistLover, activist Deji Adeyanju criticized the police for detaining Darlington without pressing formal charges or granting him bail. Lawyer Stanlie Eke later clarified that Darlington is in court over allegations of defaming Burna Boy, emphasizing that slander is a criminal offense in Nigeria and does not fall under police jurisdiction.
Eke also revealed that Darlington was not initially brought to court because judges were attending a conference. With the court set to close for the year next week, concerns have arisen about whether the artist will remain in custody until 2024.
Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman, addressed the situation, noting that while a judge recently passed away, it was unrelated to the Federal High Court. He added that Darlington might secure bail if judges are available this week, urging fans to remain optimistic.
