The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, acknowledged the challenges currently facing Nigeria but assured citizens that President Bola Tinubu’s administration will leave a lasting legacy for a brighter future. Speaking at the 2024 University of Calabar ’87 Law Class Reunion, Akpabio attributed the current hardships to past maladministration, stressing that the country’s lack of infrastructure and preparedness for global economic crises contributed to the difficulties.

Akpabio emphasized that despite these challenges, there is hope under Tinubu’s leadership, assuring Nigerians that the administration is focused on long-term solutions. He also highlighted that the initiatives being undertaken are for the benefit of future generations.

During the event, Akpabio and his classmates visited Cross River State Governor Prince Bassey Otu and University of Calabar Vice Chancellor Professor Florence Obi, addressing the institution’s infrastructural challenges. The ’87 Law Class pledged to support the university, including donating two Coaster buses for the Faculty of Law and the Student Union Government.

Governor Otu, a fellow UNICAL alumnus, promised to partner with the group to further their efforts in improving the institution. Justice Okon Abang, Patron of the ’87 Law Class, commended his classmates for their contributions to the legal profession and national development.
