The Enugu State Government has rejected the illegal sit-at-home order issued by unidentified individuals, stating that the state has moved beyond such actions. Citizens have been directed to continue their daily activities as security measures are in place to ensure their safety.
In a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the government expressed its disapproval of the video circulating on social media, calling on residents of the South East to stay home on Monday and Tuesday. Onyia stressed that the state will no longer allow criminals to dictate public movements, and reiterated that no sit-at-home order would be observed in Enugu. Citizens, including civil servants, traders, and business owners, were urged to go about their regular activities, with a warning that anyone failing to show up for work or business would be seen as sabotaging the state’s efforts to maintain order.
The statement highlighted the government’s commitment to security, with infrastructure in place to apprehend criminals attempting to disrupt the peace. The police also reinforced this stance. In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, Commissioner of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu described the sit-at-home call as baseless and intended to spread fear. He assured residents that law enforcement, alongside other security agencies, was prepared to maintain peace and order across the state, warning that any disruption would be dealt with decisively.
CP Uzuegbu further called on parents and guardians to prevent their children from engaging in actions that threaten state security, cautioning that such acts carry serious legal consequences. The public was encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the authori
