The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Kano State has reported receiving 618 complaints of alleged human rights violations from July to the present. The NHRC State Coordinator, Shehu Abdullahi, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Kano.
According to Mr. Abdullahi, 480 cases have been resolved, while 138 are still under review. Out of the total, 346 cases involved women and children, 75 related to breaches of trust, and 50 concerned spousal responsibilities.
According to Mr. Abdullahi, 60 of the cases reported during the period involved abandonment of family responsibilities and domestic violence. He noted that no fewer than 52 cases were related to labor disputes, land ownership, and cultural, economic, and social rights.
He further explained that 35 of the cases were labor-related, primarily conflicts between employers and employees, often concerning end-of-service entitlements and compensation for work-related accidents.
Additionally, Mr. Abdullahi mentioned that the commission had mediated several marital disputes between couples and families.
