Enugu, Nigeria — Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has once again demonstrated his unwavering commitment to the security and economic transformation of the state, speaking passionately at the 2024 Standing Committee Meeting of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, held in Enugu. The Governor used the platform to highlight his administration’s strides in enhancing security, education, and economic growth, urging citizens and religious bodies to support his vision for a more prosperous Enugu.
“We don’t mince words when it comes to the safety of our citizens,” Governor Mbah stated emphatically, emphasizing that the days of political correctness are over and that decisive action is the new order. He recalled the state’s bold move to terminate the illegal ‘sit-at-home’ order that had crippled the region for months, sending a clear message that Enugu would not be held hostage by criminal elements.
The Governor announced plans to launch a state-of-the-art surveillance system that combines human and artificial intelligence for round-the-clock monitoring of streets across Enugu. “This initiative is part of our broader strategy to ensure that Enugu remains safe and prosperous for all,” he said, underscoring his administration’s focus on creating a secure environment for businesses and residents alike.
Mbah also highlighted the government’s dedication to education, pointing out the historic allocation of 33% of the 2024 budget to the sector. He detailed the ongoing “Smart Green Schools” initiative, which aims to equip Enugu’s children with the skills needed to excel in a rapidly evolving world. “Education is at the core of our development agenda,” Mbah stressed, calling it a cornerstone of Enugu’s future growth.
In his address, Governor Mbah showcased the remarkable progress made in attracting investments to the state. In just three months, his administration has secured over N300 billion in investment commitments, revitalizing industries and creating jobs. “From assembling tractors to reviving the long-dormant Sunrise Flour Mills, we are laying the foundation for a robust and diversified economy,” Mbah noted, highlighting the transformative impact of these initiatives on Enugu’s economic landscape.
As he concluded his speech, Mbah called on the Church and all citizens to join hands in the ongoing efforts to reinvent Enugu State. “The road may be tough, but the destination—an Enugu State that is secure, livable, prosperous, and full of opportunities—is well worth the effort,” he affirmed.
