Noble Igwe, a media personality, has openly criticized the high prices of ‘Made in Nigeria’ suits, questioning the justification for their N4.3 million price tag.
In a series of tweets on his verified social media platforms, Igwe questioned the quality and value of these expensive suits. He challenged any Nigerian-based suit maker to have their N4.3 million suit undergo tests for fabric, stitching, and factory standards to justify the price.
“I’m daring any bold Nigerian suit maker to submit their N4.3 million suit for a fabric, sewing, and factory assessment. Tag them, please,” Igwe wrote.
He humorously likened the suit’s price to a typical Lagos experience, saying, “The only thing in Lagos worth that price is real pounded yam, made by someone who took three buses to work after a night without power. Yam pounded with frustration, sorrow, and sweat in a dimly lit kitchen. Put that price tag on it, then.”
Igwe also took issue with how designers react to criticism of luxury item prices in Nigeria. He remarked, “In Nigeria, if you question the price of a ‘luxury piece,’ designers quickly label you as uneducated or poor. This happens just because someone questioned paying N4.3 million for a ‘Made in Nigeria’ suit. Maybe I’m poor too.”
