In a devastating incident, the death toll from the bombings in Borno has risen to 31, with 18 lives tragically lost during Saturday’s attacks by suicide bombers using improvised explosive devices (IEDs). According to hospital sources, 42 individuals were initially admitted, with 14 discharged after treatment, while 26 remain under medical care.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, who personally contributed to support the victims, expressed heartfelt condolences to the affected families. He also conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s sympathies to the people of Gwoza and Borno State.
Accompanying the Vice President were Borno State Deputy Governor Umar Kadafur, Senator Ali Ndume, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Abubakar Kyari, former Nigerian Ambassador to China Baba Ahmed Jidda, and other dignitaries.
President Tinubu, in a statement issued shortly after the attack, denounced the bombings as cowardly acts of terror. He emphasized his administration’s commitment to justice and security, vowing to intensify efforts against those who threaten peace and safety.
