Douye Diri
In a decisive victory, the incumbent Governor of Bayelsa State and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate, Douye Diri, has emerged as the winner of the state’s gubernatorial election held last Saturday. The declaration was made by the Returning Officer, Prof Faruq Kuta, who also serves as the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna. The official announcement took place on Monday at the election’s collation center.
Diri secured a substantial lead with a total of 175,196 votes, triumphing over his closest competitor, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who managed to gather 110,108 votes. The Labour Party trailed behind with a modest 905 votes.
The outcome of the election solidifies Diri’s position as the elected leader of Bayelsa State, marking a significant political development in the region.
