Israel imposes 'complete siege' on Gaza as Hamas threatens hostages

In a statement that has sent shockwaves through the region, Israel’s military spokesman, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, announced the country’s intention to intensify its attacks on the Gaza Strip, positioning itself for the next phase of its ongoing conflict with Hamas. With an eye on the looming possibility of a ground invasion into Gaza, Hagari emphasized the military’s commitment to creating optimal conditions before proceeding further.

“We will deepen our attacks to minimize the dangers to our forces in the next stages of the war. We are going to increase the attacks, from today,” Hagari declared.

This announcement has left many in Israel deeply concerned about the fate of their loved ones who may still be held captive by Hamas, fearing that they might become collateral damage in an imminent ground incursion. Israeli military sources estimate that around 200 hostages are being held by Hamas militants.

The recent release of two American hostages from Illinois has brought a glimmer of hope. Cohen, an Israeli official, expressed optimism, stating, “The release of two American hostages on Friday gives me hope because we see that there are negotiations through Qatar. And we see that Hamas understands it needs to let people go.”

Meanwhile, the death toll in Gaza continues to rise, reaching a staggering 4,385, with heartbreaking numbers that include 1,756 children and 967 women among the casualties. Moreover, 13,561 individuals have been injured, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, which reported these grim statistics during a news conference held on Saturday. The ministry spokesperson emphasized that a concerning 70 percent of the casualties consist of women, children, and elderly people.
