Professor of political economy, Pat Utomi expressed hope in the 2023 general election, saying the Labor Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi’s movement will change Nigeria.
Utomi made the statement while speaking on Sunday Today, a Channels television program monitored by our correspondent said that Nigerian politicians are only bound by the agreements they can make without sacrificing themselves to the people.
He said Nigerian politicians are afraid of the youth clamoring for a new Nigeria that will work for all Nigerians.

The professor noted that the goal of the Labour Party’s sensitization tour is to address what makes democracy work.

“Currently, Nigerian democracy is not working because of the transaction costs involved, the business that has to be done so that eventually when people come to power they realize that what is bad for power is not the goal.

“They forget the purpose because there are many contracts, IOUs to win elections and in the end we get politics of politicians for politicians and politicians and not democracy which is for the people and for the people,” he added.

According to Utomi, this is why Nigeria is where it is today, crippled, lying face down in front of the wall, despite great potential.

“Nigerian politicians are too attached to the deals they can make instead of serving the people,” he said.
