The Academic Staff Union of universities has declared a “comprehensive and total” strike.
The strike was announced in a press conference delivered by ASUU President Prof Emmanuel Osodeke on Monday.
He said the strike, which takes effect from Monday, February 14, 2022, would last for an initial four-week period.
He said the union was trying to avoid a strike but the Federal Government did not respond to the union’s demands.
Members of the union’s National Executive Board have been holding marathon meetings since Saturday at the University of Lagos titled, ‘NEC to NEC.’ ASUU has resuscitated and mobilized faculty and students at all universities about the reasons unions are likely to strike.
The union has expressed complaints over the Federal Government’s failure to meet several deals made as far back as 2009.
ASUU on November 15, 2021, gave a three-week ultimatum to the federal government over the failure to meet the demands.
