Four children died and five others were injured after falling from a bouncy castle blown into the air in Australia, police said. The accident – caused by a gust of wind – occurred on Thursday on a fun day of elementary school in Devonport, Tasmania. Police said the children fell from a height of about 10m (32ft). Two boys and two girls died.
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison described the crash as “unthinkable heartbreak”. “Little kids on a great day… And it turned into such a terrible tragedy. At this time of year, it just breaks your heart,” he said. Paramedics arrived quickly at Hillcrest Elementary School after the crash at around 10:00 local time (23:00 Wednesday GMT). The children were given first aid before being flown by helicopter to the hospital.
Devonport, on Tasmania’s northern coast, is a small port city with just under 30,000 residents.
